Train Treks For Kids

Ride the Capitol Corridor on your next school field trip!

Capitol Corridor offers Train Treks for Kids, a program specially designed for school groups. It allows teachers to arrange trips to the best spots in Northern California for a significantly reduced fare. Groups of 20 or more can travel in a convenient, safe and fun environment while learning about train travel. Seating is first-come, first-serve so we ask that you submit your reservation request at least 14 days in advance of your travel date via fax or through our convenient online form.

When planning your trip, please note that one adult chaperone is required for every six children.

Fun and Educational Destinations

Capitol Corridor travels along a 170-mile corridor with many destinations to stop and explore! Whether you choose to visit the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento, Pier 39 in San Francisco, or the Children's Discovery Museum in San Jose, Train Treks will make your trip convenient and fun. How to Plan Your Trip - Easy as 1-2-3!

  1. Complete the Group Reservation Request Form
    You may submit the form online OR fax to the Capitol Corridor Group Desk at 510.464.6901. If you submit the form online, there is no need to fax the form.

    The Capitol Corridor Group Desk will process your application request and notify you within five business days whether your trip has been confirmed. You will receive either a fax or email with a reservation number and confirmation letter.
  2. Create a Passenger Name List
    Along with your confirmation letter, you will be sent a Passenger Name List, which we ask that you complete and either fax or email back to us at least ten days prior to your trip. List the first and last names of all passengers traveling in your group.

    The Passenger Name List is due 10 days prior to your date of travel. You may either fax or or e-mail back to the group desk at (510) 464-6901 or groupdesk@capitolcorridor.org.
  3. Purchase your tickets
    Bring your confirmation letter and a copy of your Passenger Name List to any staffed Amtrak station, at least seven days prior to your date of travel to purchase your tickets.

    Please pay with cash, a credit card or school/ business check made out to "Amtrak." Personal checks are not accepted.

Adjustments to the reservation cannot be made after you receive your confirmation. You will be required to pay for the seats you have reserved. No refunds are given after tickets are purchased.

Confirmed reservations are required for Train Treks travel. Enjoy your trip on the Capitol Corridor!

Current Fares

For the Train Treks program, the Capitol Corridor route is broken into three fare zones:

Zone Map

Zone 1: Auburn to Sacramento
Zone 2: Sacramento to Oakland Jack London and Oakland Coliseum
Zone 3: Oakland Jack London and Oakland Coliseum to San Jose

Travel to and from stations within each zone costs $7.50 roundtrip per person (adult chaperone and youth). Roundtrip travel from one zone to the next costs $15.00 per person. Roundtrip travel through all three zones costs $22.50 per person.

Sample Fares
Oakland to Sacramento (Within Zone 2) = $7.50 per person

Rocklin to Great America (Zones 1 to 3) = $22.50 per person

Roseville to Emeryville/ San Francisco Pier 39 (Zone 1 to Zone 2) = $15.00 per person (Motorcoach from Emeryville to Pier 39 included)

Train Treks Restrictions

Train Treks offer is subject to space availability and is only available on Capitol Corridor trains and is not valid on any other Amtrak service. Train Treks rates cannot be combined with any other promotional discount or offer. Offer may be cancelled at any time without notice. This offer is available only through Capitol Corridor's Group Reservation system using the procedures outlined above.

Limited space is available for Train Treks groups and some trains may not be able to accommodate groups. Trains that do not accommodate Train Treks for Kids groups include #523, #529 and #536.
