May is Bike Month

Bike to Work Day

This Bike Month, ditch the car altogether and ride your bike to the train! Whether you’re commuting to work or enjoying a weekend ride along a bike trail, your bike and the Capitol Corridor make the perfect eco-friendly combination. You can secure your bike at the station, or bring it on board the train to easily get where you need to go. There might be more bikes on board than usual, so if the bike racks are full, follow the instructions of the train crew on where to place and secure your bike. Please don’t block aisles, as other passengers need clearance.

On Thursday, May 14, join thousands of others in the Bike to Work Day events occurring throughout Northern California. In the East Bay, bike to your nearest Energizer Station (a few are located by our train stations!) or celebrate with other bicyclists at a Bike Happy Hour. Visit the East Bay Bike to Work Day page for a full list of bike-themed activities and specific locations. Sacramento area folks can check out the Capitol BikeFest at the State Capitol for activities, raffles, and exhibits. Capitol Corridor staff will be there as well, so stop by and say hello!

Rider Tip: Taking Your Bike on the Train for the First Time

Bikes on Board

Now that Bike Month is here, you might be considering taking your bicycle on the train. After all, bikes and trains are a match made in heaven, right? You’re probably thinking, “Whoever said that obviously takes their bike on the train all the time.” It’s true that bikes and trains are a great combo, but when you’re trying it for the very first time (or even the first few times!), it can be a little intimidating – we get it. Take it from a non-bike riding Capitol Corridor employee who tried it for the first time just a few weeks ago. It was a great experience, but like anything new, it’s a little hard at first and takes some time getting used to. Read her tips for newbies who want to experience the fun of taking their two-wheeler on the train.
