Capitol Corridor Service in the event of a BART Strike

BART continues to be involved in labor negotiations. BART service could be disrupted if unions call a strike. Although BART may go on strike, please be assured that Capitol Corridor is not involved in these negotiations and our service will continue uninterrupted. Please visit www.bart.gov for information on the status of the negotiations.

The Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority is attending contingency planning sessions with BART management and is working with Amtrak to develop a contingency plan.

In the event of a BART strike, all Capitol Corridor trains and connecting buses will operate regularly scheduled service, though transfers to BART at the Richmond station would be suspended.

The Richmond Amtrak / Capitol Corridor platform will remain open for Capitol Corridor and San Joaquin trains during a potential strike for those riders en route to Richmond or for those riders who originate there.

Capitol Corridor trains may carry more riders than usual, resulting in less available seating on board. Due to rail equipment demands, we are unable to add additional coaches to trains or increase service to accommodate extra ridership.

  • San Francisco-bound Passengers: If you normally transfer to BART at Richmond to get to SF, please plan to detrain at Emeryville to board a Route 99 connecting motorcoach. Your ticket must indicate San Francisco as your destination stop. Please be patient as traffic conditions on the Bay Bridge will result in delays.
  • Berkeley/Oakland or East Bay-bound Passengers: If you normally transfer to BART at Richmond to get to Downtown Berkeley, Downtown Oakland, or other destinations along the East Bay please plan to offboard at our Berkeley or Oakland Jack London stations and connect to an AC Transit bus. Ask your conductor for free transit transfers when they punch your ticket. For AC Transit schedules and information, visit 511.org or call 511 from within the Bay Area.
  • Due to the labor dispute, the Capitol Corridor Information Center will have limited staff available to answer calls, and you may experience longer wait times than usual. We advise you to call 511 should you need immediate information.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to our regular passengers. Thank you for your cooperation. We will do our best to provide you with the level of service you are accustomed to.

Please visit the Capitol Corridor website at www.capitolcorridor.org for answers to top questions about traveling aboard our trains. You may also call the Bay Area’s 511 line, or visit 511.org to find out about the latest news about Bay Area transportation alternatives during the strike, visit 511.org.
