Welcome to the Knit Blog

Until I started knitting a few years ago, most of my crafting was of the paper variety (greeting cards, photocrafts, scrapbooking, collage, stamping, etc.). But one day, a teammate walked into the office with a very cute poncho. I asked where she got it, and she said, "Oh, I made it! I knitted it." Then I knew I just had to learn how to knit.

With the help of my teammate's suggested book, "Knitting Pretty", and a "How to Knit" pamphlet from my local yarn store, I managed to make my first scarf complete with unintentional yarn-overs (holes) and unplanned increases and decreases.

Not long after, I grabbed Debbie Stoller's first Stitch 'n Bitch book, improved my knitting skills, and proceeded to knit gifts for just about everyone on my holiday gift-giving list. I was obsessed.

So I started taking my knitting everywhere I went. On the BART train to work. At the movies. Waiting at the doctor's office. At friend's houses. Restaurants. Cafes. Even football games--I knit during the time-outs. And, my co-worker and I would take our knitting on the Capitol Corridor whenever we were headed to a meeting. After checking our voice mail and such, we'd talk shop as we knit. Then, we noticed that there were other passengers who were also knitting or crocheting onboard.

After our first foray to Stitches West, while it was still in Oakland, and seeing how popular it was, we decided to plan a "Stitch 'n Ride" train to the next Stitches West event. Each year, it has grown in popularity, and we have had the chance to make many knitting friends. And it is always so intriguing to see the variety of projects passengers bring onboard--just amazing what you can do with two sticks and a ball of string! We are so thankful for the support you have shown to Stitch 'n Ride, and hope to bring you lots of fun onboard the next event!
