January 16, 2007: Track work begins January 17th

Effective January 17th, Capitol Corridor trains will experience a temporary service disruption. Union Pacific will be upgrading track infrastructure (primarily railroad ties & bridges) between Richmond and the north side of the Martinez-Benicia drawbridge, installing approximately 40,000 new wood ties at their own expense. This is the first installment of a multi-year track upgrade project between Oakland and Sacramento, which will keep the railroad in good condition so trains can operate reliably.
There will be a six-week suspension on weekdays of some morning and mid-day trains during the construction period to give the track workers time to do the rebuilding. These weekday trains WILL NOT OPERATE from January 17, 2007-February 21, 2007:
Eastbound trains: #518, #526, #530, #534
Westbound trains: #527, #531, #533, #541
(#529 will operate thru to San Jose)
Other trains will operate (some with adjusted schedules), although some trains passing through the work area between 8am and 3pm might also experience a few minutes delay.
We apologize for the inconvenience of this track work construction, but rest assured that in the long run, this maintenance will help us deliver a more reliable Capitol Corridor service.
