Weekend Event Picks: Friday Fun at Oakland Museum of California, St. Louis Symphony, and Sacramento Chocolate Salon

Night Market & Off the Grid at OMCA: Oakland, 1/29

On Friday, bring the whole family to the Oakland Museum of California for half-price adult admission, free youth admission, and a night market featuring gourmet food trucks from Off the Grid. The 5-9pm event will feature extended Museum gallery hours; a DJ and live youth band at the 10th St. amphitheater; Story Time with the Oakland Public Library; a Makers & Testers Series with the author of Cooking Stoned; specials on local beers and wines from the Blue Oak Beer Garden; and more. St. Louis Symphony: Berkeley, 1/29 & 1/31

Come to Berkeley on Friday and Sunday for two unique performances by the St. Louis Symphony, a modern orchestra known for its wide expressive range and interpretive flexibility. On Friday, the group will perform Mahler’s Fifth Symphony and John Adams’s Saxophone Concerto of 2013, and on Sunday they will pay tribute to Utah’s natural beauty with Olivier Messiaens’s Des Canyons aux Etoiles (From the Canyons to the Stars). You can also connect to BART at the Richmond Station or Oakland Coliseum Station and get off in Downtown Berkeley.


Sacramento Chocolate Salon: Sacramento, 1/30

Chocolate lovers are in for a treat at the 3rd Annual Sacramento Chocolate Salon, a celebration of all things chocolate. The event will take place from 11am to 5pm along the water at the Embassy Suites Riverfront Promenade and feature tastings of the finest artisan, gourmet, and premium chocolates; chef and cookbook author talks; demonstrations; and interviews by TasteTV’s Chocolate Television program. Attendees with will also receive a 15% discount at the Embassy Suites Riverfront café and restaurant. To get to the ultimate chocolate experience, take the train to the Sacramento Station, which is just over half a mile from the venue.
