Capitol Corridor Voted USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Award for Best Scenic Train Ride

May 31, 2019

The Capitol Corridor is pleased to announce that it placed in the top five in the 2019 USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice travel award contest for Best Scenic Train Ride.

“We would like to thank all of our riders and fans from near and far who took the time to vote via the 10Best.com contest page for our beautiful 170-mile route between San Jose and Auburn,” said Rebecca Saltzman, Chair of the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority (CCJPA) Board of Directors. “We are thrilled and honored to be considered one of the most scenic train rides in the country.” The Capitol Corridor climbed from number 19 on the opening day of voting to number 4 when voting closed on May 20, 2019.

“Capitol Corridor riders love the service for a lot of reasons, and we know that one of those reasons is that instead of being stuck in traffic, they can sit back, relax, and enjoy the beautiful scenery along our route,” said CCJPA Managing Director, David Kutrosky. “It’s satisfying to have the majestic views of our service recognized by travel experts and the public while also providing a premier mobility option for the residents, workers and visitors in the Northern California megaregion.”

The Capitol Corridor was one of 20 train services nominated in late April 2019 by a panel of travel experts that included a combination of editors from USA TODAY; editors from 10Best.com; relevant expert contributors; and sources for both these media and other Gannett properties. Once the nominations were announced, online voting was open to the public for 28 days, through May 20, 2019. Rules allowed the public to vote online for one nominee per day.
