Support Our Furry Friends This Giving Tuesday
November 28, 2023Two weeks ago, we celebrated the launch of our Onboard Pet Policy at Emeryville Amtrak Station on a cold, yet cheerful morning. In attendance were Capitol Corridor riders and a variety of furry friends, though some were too big to ride the train. We learned that of the pets at the event, all but one were adopted from shelters or rescue agencies! This stat includes Cleo, the face of the Onboard Pet Policy campaign, who was adopted 10 years ago from an rescue agency in the South Bay.
While we were overjoyed to learn this, we also know that many of our local shelters are overcrowded, overburdened, and need support to care for animals in need.
Giving Tuesday is an annual day of extending generosity, social, and financial capital to communities and organizations across the globe. This holiday season, we invite you to support your local animal shelters by donating, fostering, or adopting an animal.
There are many local animal shelters and humane societies along our corridor. Oakland Animal Services plans many pet adoption fairs at local businesses in Jack London Square, right next to OKJ Amtrak Station. This Giving Tuesday, the shelter is doubling your impact! Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary located in Sacramento (and very close to Sacramento Station) is also matching funds. Other animal shelters along our corridor include Humane Society of Silicon Valley, Hayward Animal Shelter, and Berkeley Humane Society, just to name a few.
And remember, if you decide to adopt a furry friend, remember that we now allow pets (cats and dogs under 20lbs) onboard our trains!

November 16, 2023New pet travel policy available for Thanksgiving holiday travel
Oakland, CA, November 16, 2023 – Just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday, Capitol Corridor is excited to announce its new onboard pet policy. Starting today, Capitol Corridor will allow pets (dogs and cats) under 20 pounds to travel onboard in a carrier with their owners every day.
“We are thrilled to provide this new service on our trains,” said Rob Padgette, Managing Director of Capitol Corridor. “This holiday season will be more enjoyable knowing passengers have the option to bring their furry friends onboard with them along the entire route. We’d like to thank Amtrak for helping us implement this highly requested passenger service. Many Amtrak routes welcome pets on trains across the nation.”
Pet Travel Policy
- $29 per pet (one-way)
- Pets under 20 pounds (dogs and cats, only)
- One pet per reservation
- Pet travel must be booked online in advance
- Pet must remain in carrier onboard
- Carrier size: 19’Lx14’W x10”H
- Pets must remain in carrier onboard with carrier under the seat
- Pets allowed in all cars, except the Quiet Car, and the Café car

APEC Conference- Temporary SFC Bus Stop and Bus Connection Delays through 11/19/23
November 15, 2023UPDATE: Effective 11/15/23 – 11/19/23, connecting bus service will return to its regular location at 555 Mission and is expected to remain there for the rest of the APEC Conference.

APEC Economic Leaders’ Week will be held in San Francisco the week of November 11-19, 2023. Capitol Corridor connecting buses between Emeryville and San Francisco may be impacted by traffic congestion due to the event. There may be times during this week that connecting buses between San Francisco and Emeryville may miss their connections and passengers will need to take the next available train.
The last eastbound (towards Sacramento) Capitol Corridor train of the night will hold for late incoming bus connection from San Francisco.
Passengers are advised to transfer at Richmond Station and take BART to/from San Francisco. The San Francisco connecting bus stop is a 5-minute walk to the Montgomery BART station.

Thanksgiving Service 2023
November 8, 2023In anticipation of the busiest travel week of the year, the Capitol Corridor is prepared to accommodate Thanksgiving travelers with extra equipment and additional capacity. We encourage you to plan–ahead and book early.
Capitol Corridor service will run according to the Weekend/Holiday Schedule on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 23, as well as the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, November 24.

CARRY-ON BAGGAGE POLICY CHANGE
Amtrak Carry-On Baggage Policy will change, limiting passengers to ONE (1) personal item. Passengers can still bring 2 carry-on items aboard the train. As a reminder, Capitol Corridor does not offer checked baggage on this route.
