————-

Original post (9/12/22): Please be advised that a labor strike impacting the nation’s freight railroads appears increasingly likely later this week. In the event of a railroad strike, service on the Capitol Corridor is expected to be suspended as early as Thursday, September 15, 2022, with no known date for resumption of service. Due to the widespread impact of a potential strike across our service route, we will not be able to establish bus bridges during this event but will keep you informed of alternative options. We advise that you plan on alternate transportation for travel starting on Thursday, September 15th.

We are hopeful that all parties will come to an agreement without any interruption in service, however, we also understand that you need to be aware of this possibility to make informed plans about your travel later this week.

Currently, the nation’s Class I freight carriers, including Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR), are in dispute with their unions and are in negotiations. If a strike is called, freight and passenger operations on corridors managed by freight railroads would cease, including the UPRR lines on which Capitol Corridor operates. The potential duration of a labor action is unknown, but given the national disruption that this will cause, our hope is that resolution would occur relatively quickly. Our ability to resume service will depend on the duration of the strike. Please watch our website (capitolcorridor.org) and social media channels for updates.

In the event of an actual strike, we will provide an announcement and will provide more details as we are able. Please share this information with your fellow riders. We encourage all riders to sign up for our email/text message updates or to follow us on Twitter. Thank you.

Experience a Bike-Friendly Weekend in Placer County

April 8, 2022

The forecast is full of sunny days ahead, and what better time than now to get out and experience one of the scenic destinations along the Capitol Corridor route? If you’re looking for a weekend getaway that includes biking, beautiful nature views, delicious dining options, and thrilling adventures, we have designed a trip just for you! Here’s all that you’ll need to know to plan a fun-filled weekend in Placer County.

 Getting to Placer County

The Capitol Corridor train offers daily service to Roseville, Rocklin, and Auburn; and with the convenience of complimentary onboard Wi-Fi, restrooms, and a Café Car, you’ll be able to slip into relaxation mode as soon you board the train. To make this weekend adventure completely car-free, bring your bike onto the train at no extra cost.

 Where to Stay

The Park Victorian is a short bike ride (about a mile) from the Auburn train station. The restored inn sits on 6.5 acres near Old Town Auburn and is picturesque inside and out, boasting several elegant suites to choose from.

 Things to Do

While you might be inclined to spend the weekend lounging about, there’s plenty of outdoor activities to make the most of the trip. Spend the day taking in the views of the American River along the 3.5 mile Confluence Trail. The difficulty is moderate, making it accessible for many visitors. To get there, hop on the Auburn Transit Shuttle at the Historic Firehouse in Old Town Auburn to be taken straight to the American River Confluence for an all-day mountain biking or hiking experience.

To keep the adrenaline pumping, we recommend visiting Quarry Park Adventures in Rocklin. This is one place not to be missed during your trip, as it will dispel any notion of what you thought it might be like to visit a rock quarry. Activities include zip lining, a climbing wall, paddle boats, and even a free fall for the not so faint of heart. There’s adventure for visitors of all ages, the Kidz Kove features climbing nets, balance beams, Miner’s Maze and more. What may surprise you to know is that the onsite Amphitheater is also a concert venue. Check out the Quarry Park Amphitheater for upcoming events. To get to the park, bike over to the Auburn train station and catch the Route 10 Auburn to Light Rail bus to the Sierra College Campus. From there, it’s just a 9-minute bike ride (1.4 miles) to Quarry Park Adventures.

The trip would not be complete without taking a stroll through Old Town Auburn, which also happens to be the location of the first gold discovery in Placer County. Its historic charm remains intact and is exactly where you will want to spend time making even more memories while shopping and dining.

 Where to Eat

While you won’t be able to help but run into quite a few restaurants and dining options in Old Town Auburn, a few well-known favorites are Tap and Vine, , The Pour Choice, and Auburn Alehouse.

 Save on Travel

Now that you’ve have an itinerary that’s loaded with outdoor excursions and satisfying food options, the next step is booking your car-free excursion. Take advantage of current discounts on train travel by booking Capitol Corridor’s 30th Anniversary deal, which offers 30% off full adult fares through June.

Fremont Station Accessibility Improvement Work Set to Begin in February

February 17, 2022

Beginning in February (expected start date is Monday, February 21, 2022), construction will begin at the Fremont Station to improve ADA accessibility. The station will remain in operation during construction.

Our operating partner, Amtrak, under contract with Centennial Construction, will be leading this critical project that is part of a federal funding package for improving accessibility at rail stations. Similar accessibility improvements are already in progress at other stations, including Oakland Coliseum and Martinez, to ensure that all stations are compliant with ADA regulations.

Project Details and Customer Impact

New portions of boarding platforms will be constructed on the North and South sides of the tracks, with improved lighting, drainage, and signage features.

The project will be accomplished in two phases:

Phase 1 will be on the South platform located across the tracks from the station.

Phase 2 will be on the North platform which extends along the station-side parking area.

Customer safety will be maintained throughout construction. Paths of travel and access to available boarding areas will be designated and marked with signage.

During Phase 1, boarding will be consolidated to the North-side platform by the station. During Phase 2, boarding will continue on the North platform in front of the station and will also return to the newly completed South platform.

During construction, Capitol Corridor passengers can expect typical construction noise from equipment and tools; warning horns or whistles when crews need to clear the tracks; and construction trucks operating in and out of the worksite.

We do not expect this construction project to impact train schedules; however, conductors on trains arriving at the Fremont Station will need to limit the number of doors they open since only a portion of the platform will be available for boarding at a given time.

Work is expected to be completed in March 2023.
