Dear Capitol Corridor Riders:
Yesterday the Bay Area communities experienced an estimated 6.0 magnitude earthquake in the Napa County region. Pursuant to Union Pacific Railroad’s internal protocols, the location and magnitude of the earthquake required UPRR to shut down service along its rail network in most of Northern California and conduct a thorough inspection of all tracks and bridges to ensure the track infrastructure was safe for operation. The inspection took place along most of Capitol Corridor’s 170-mile route and took most of the day for Union Pacific to complete.
As a result of this track closure, the Capitol Corridor trains experienced systemwide cancellations and numerous delays.
As the managing agency for the Capitol Corridor service, the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority (CCJPA) extends our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused. Your safety on board the Capitol Corridor trains is our top priority.
As of 8pm yesterday evening, all regularly scheduled Capitol Corridor service has been restored and Capitol Corridor trains are operating on-time this morning, Monday, August 25. The CCJPA takes pride in delivering a high-quality transportation experience that includes an average 95+% on-time performance, which is the best in the Amtrak system.
