It’s October, and it seems everywhere you turn there’s a pumpkin patch, whether it’s at a farm or in a parking lot. There are even some along the Capitol Corridor route, so you can combine a festive weekend outing with a ride on the train! Here are three patches we discovered within 20 minutes of our stations:
1. Speer Family Farms Bay Street Pumpkin Patch, 5600 Christie Avenue, Emeryville
In addition to your choice of pumpkins, this location also hosts a petting zoo, jump house play area, and giant boat slide.
Directions: The farm is a 10 minute walk directly from the Emeryville station. Walk across the pedestrian bridge over the train tracks, turn left on Shellmound St., and turn left on Christie Ave.
Distance: 0.4 miles

2. Pick of the Patch Pumpkins Fremont, 4020 Fremont Hub
This Pick of the Patch location has jump houses and inflatable slides and a “memory zone” for taking festive photos.
Directions: Take weekend train to the Fremont/Centerville Station. Take the AC Transit bus 99, 210, or 801 to Fremont and Mowry.
Distance: 1.6 miles
Estimated Time From Station: 15 minutes (by bus)

3. Pick of the Patch Pumpkins Santa Clara, 2380 Monroe Street
This Pick of the Patch location has jump houses and inflatable slides, as well as gator racing, a petting zoo, and a “memory zone” for taking festive photos.
Directions: Take weekend train to Santa Clara/University Station. Take the VTA 32 bus directly from the station to Monroe and San Thomas Creek. (Note: The VTA 32 bus operates hourly on Saturdays from 8:50 am – 5 pm.)
Distance: 2.5 miles
