2. May Trackwork Project
**********************************************************************
In late May/early June, Union Pacific will upgrade track
infrastructure (primarily railroad ties & bridges) between Martinez
and Suisun/Fairfield, installing approximately 40,000 new wood ties at
their own expense. This is the second installment of a multi-year
track upgrade project between Oakland and Sacramento, which will keep
the railroad in good condition so trains can operate reliably.
During the course of the track work, some morning and early afternoon
Capitol Corridor trains will not operate between Martinez and
Suisun/Fairfield. Instead, connecting busses will handle passengers
between those two stations, and trains will operate on the remainder
of the route on a modified schedule. Early morning and late
afternoon/evening trains should not be affected. At this point, the
modified schedule for the affected trains is still being worked out.
More information will be announced when it becomes available.

3. National Train Day
**********************************************************************
To raise awareness of the vital role rail plays in our nation’s
transportation system, Amtrak is celebrating the first annual National
Train Day on Saturday, May 10, 2008. The date of National Train Day,
May 10, holds special meaning as it is the anniversary of the
completion of the first transcontinental railroad at Promontory Point,
Utah in 1869. At Promontory Point, the east coast and west coast were
connected for the first time by rail.
Amtrak is holding a one day sale on April 4th for ‘buy one, get one’
tickets valid for travel on National Train Day. More Information
Capitol Corridor is participating in National Train day on a local
level, and activities & events include:
– Passengers showing their Amtrak ticket stub will receive free
admission to the California State Railroad Museum on May 10, 2008 only
– 25% discount will be offered to passengers traveling on May 10, 2008
aboard the Capitol Corridor, San Joaquins, and Pacific Surfliner

4. Welcome School Groups aboard
**********************************************************************
April and May are the busiest months for school groups on Capitol
Corridor, as teachers take their students on end-of-the-year field
trips. Please welcome these groups onboard, as many of the students
are riding the train for the very first time. In some instances, cars
may be reserved for large groups. Please be courteous to your fellow
riders and store your personal items in the overhead bins to ensure
there are enough seats for all of our passengers. Thanks!
