Service Advisory Overview:Â Union Pacific is upgrading track infrastructure (primarily railroad ties) between the Suisun/Fairfield and Sacramento stations, where they will install new ties at their own expense. This is the fourth installment of a multi-year track upgrade project between Oakland and Sacramento, designed to keep the railroad in good condition so trains can operate safely and reliably.
This information is for Phase 1 of a two-phase track work project that is expected to last approximately eight weeks from mid-January until late-March 2010.
This Phase 1 construction is expected to last approximately four weeks from January 18 – February 14, 2010.
During the course of this track work, some of the morning and early afternoon Capitol Corridor trains will not operate between the Sacramento and Suisun/Fairfield stations. Instead, connecting buses will carry passengers between those two stations, and trains will operate on the remainder of the route on a modified schedule.

Changes to Train Schedule: Four trains will be suspended during the construction period to give Union Pacific extra time to work. The following trains WILL NOT OPERATE from January 18 – February 14, 2010.
Eastbound trains: #534, #746
Westbound trains: #533, #745
Changes to Bus Connections: Some changes to connecting bus service will also occur as a result of this track work. Motorcoach service changes include:
ROUTE 99: Emeryville to San Francisco:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
• Some Westbound motorcoaches (traveling from Emeryville into San Francisco) will experience delays. Please refer to schedule for exact departure times from Emeryville.
 ROUTES 3 & 20: Sacramento to Marysville/Chico/Redding and Colfax/Reno:
• Some bus connections at Sacramento will depart approximately 5-15 minutes later to allow for connections from trains running on adjusted schedules.
• As train 745 is annulled, there will be no Route 3 bus connection to this train.
 ROUTE 7: Martinez to Vallejo/Napa/Santa Rosa/Eureka:
• Trains 533 and 733 will not have a Route 7 bus connection. Passengers connecting to a Route 7 motorcoach bus should utilize trains 531 or 729.
• Bus connections for trains 541 and 741 will depart at 3:35pm.
 ROUTE 21: San Jose to Gilroy/San Luis Obispo/Santa Barbara:
• Bus connection from train 537 will depart at 3:55pm from San Jose.
• Bus connection from train 737 will depart at 3:45pm from San Jose.
 ROUTE 35: San Jose to Santa Cruz/Highway 17:
• Bus connection from train 535 will depart at 2:40pm.
• Bus connection from train 537 will depart at 4:10pm.
• Bus connection from train 543 will depart at 7:45pm.
• Bus connection from train 727 will depart at 11:50am.
• Bus connection from train741 will depart at 6:55pm.
• Bus connection from train 743 will depart at 7:50pm.
 ROUTE 55: San Jose to Monterey:
• Bus connection from train 535 will depart at 1:45pm.
• Bus connection from train 733 will depart at 2:15pm.
 All other bus/train connections will accommodate the temporary schedule.
Bicycle Advisory:
Due to limited space aboard the motorcoach buses used for the bus bridge, Capitol Corridor strongly discourages cyclists from traveling with their bicycles on affected trains between Suisun/Fairfield and Sacramento for the duration of the track work project, January 18 – February 14, 2010.
Storage space aboard motorcoach buses is available on a first-come, first-serve basis (as determined by the motorcoach driver) and first priority will be given to baggage. If space is unavailable, cyclists should be prepared to secure their bicycles at the Suisun/Fairfield or Sacramento stations or wait for the next available motorcoach connection or train that can accommodate their bicycle.
Bicycles will not be allowed in the seating area of the motorcoach buses, and there is limited space for bicycles in the motorcoach storage areas located underneath the bus. Please be considerate of other cyclists and travelers when attempting to accommodate your bicycle for travel during the track work.
Passengers will be required to load/unload their own bicycles onto/off the connecting buses. Please be advised that your bicycle cannot be secured or protected in the storage area of the bus and, as such, is subject to damage due to shifting of contents, sliding, impact with other bicycles, etc. Amtrak and Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority (CCJPA) assume no liability for bicycles onboard trains or motorcoach buses.
PLEASE NOTE:Â This information is for Phase 1 of a two-phase track work project that is expected to last approximately eight weeks from mid-January until late-March 2010.
During this time, there will be two separate temporary schedules to accommodate the work taking place between Suisun/Fairfield and Sacramento (Phase 1), as well as the work between Richmond and Oakland (Phase 2).
